Happy Ladies Day

I know it was yesterday, but I only realised it was Women's International Day at 23:58 last night. And it was only this morning that I thought of the perfect song for this day...

There isn't a Beyonce that doesn't get women feeling so empowered.

So, enjoy!!

There's nothing better than pretending you're Beyonce at the VMAs. So enjoy and get up and shake dat boot-tay like Beyonce!

Lana @ Versace - sorry, yet another Lana post

Whoever styled Lana for this event, please can you style her some more, pwetty pweeaase?

I used to prefer Lana's style back when she was first on the scene. You know, that look of flowery head bands resting on her Hollywood waves in her brown hair, as she twists her locks with her red talons and a gold' n 'tacky knuckleduster. She definitely had that exact 'gangster Nancy Sinatra' vibe that caught all the attention. But maybe that was the initial thought behind it all, because she didn't look anything like the norm.

So from the contrasting Hollywood look - glamorous and tacky - she sort of ditched that and run into plaid shirts and blue jeans whenever she hit the stage. A VERY relaxed look that made me miss her old style. But now, after seeing pics from Versace F/W 2013 at Milan Fashion Week I can see she's brought back a lil 'umph' to her style.

A huddle group photo of Lana rubbing shoulders with Donatella Versace herself and also... Janet Jackson?!! I think Lana is liking this high-end fashion scene. Even though she admitted that she's not that much into fashion and leaves it to her stylist, I will give ALL my thanks to the stylist. Whoever this stylist is, she has transformed the little Lolita into a sultry gothic siren.

*aahhh i'm jittering in fashion happiness*

DOESN'T SHE LOOK SO FIIIIINE???

Lana talking to Franca Sozzani, editor in chief of Vogue Italia. I think a magazine editorial is in the air??

Janet Jackson, Donatella Versace, Lana Del Rey and Melissa George

I can see a Versace and Lana collab coming onnnn...

'Girls' crushing

I'm thinking of her right now. There's more than one girl. I used to have many of them when I was younger, but now I think I've grown up a little bit more.

No, I'm not coming out of the closet here. I'm talking about that one girl/friend that you can't help but admire and you're so intrigued in her life that you end up wanting to look and be like her. You know, the girl that can walk into a party and say 'I didn't even get properly dressed for this' but she still looks flawless, probably a lot better than you and your pre-organised outfit that you assembled a week or two before.
This is what I think was running in Lena Dunham's (creator of tv show Girls) mind when she was creating the role for Jessa; a bohemian, free-spirit and extremely popular girl. In an interview I read, Lena had to persuade her real-life friend, Jemima Kirke (cousin of Alice Dellal and the Dellal clan) to play the part of Jessa. Jemima was hesitation at first, as painting is more her forte, but gave in. Lena knew that she'd would be perfect to play the part of Jessa, because it was in fact Jemima that gave her the inspiration for Jessa. Can you imagine asking your girl crush to play a effortlessly cool character that you created because of them? Awkward, or what?

If you don't understand what I'm talking about, then, WATCH GIRLS! It's the greatest female comedy since Sex and the City. I've even blogged about it before.

Getting back on track, the real question is, who's your girl crush? Not a celebrity, but a person that you actually know. The girl that you'd love to spend a whole day with her so you can copy the cool things she does and to experience what it's like to be a bit on the wild side. A bit like a girl like 'Carmen' by Lana Del Rey.
Although, my personal experience of this never turns out to be so lovely. After a while of being with your girl crush, it seems like too much for me. It feels as if I was never being truly myself because I was trying to hard to match her personality. I could only spend a day with her, or else I'd become a clone. I wonder if anyone else feels like this?

Relating it back to Girls, Hannah (Lena Dunham) always seems in awe of Jessa's situations and lightens up in her presence. She's that type of girl Hannah wants in her life, the adventurous and courageous girl who doesn't mind hopping into the same bath as her friend, despite the fact of nakedness.

I have to admit, I don't have a girl crush anymore. Generally these girls end up being my close friends or I lose contact with ( possibly because I can't match up with their hectic lifestyle). Do I want another girl crush? Maybe... I want someone who can just remind me that 'life isn't that hard' and to 'take a walk on the wild side' - too many Lana Del Rey quotes.

Then again, I hate that feeling of wanting to be someone you're not. I'm fine who I am (finally).

But I do want a friend like Jessa though.

Chanel's Little Black Jacket

A while back I remember reading about Karl Lagerfield and Carine Roitfeld producing a book with celebrities doing different poses wearing the iconic black tweed Chanel jacket.  I knew it would be a must read, but I didn't know later in the year there would be an exhibition in London.

Friday night, reading the latest edition of Elle, I found that at a photographic exhibition of the Chanel's Little Black Jacket is at the Saatchi Gallery, in Chelsea.  I could not miss out on this chance, so I told my mum that we HAVE to take a trip to Chelsea.

A normal 20min drive took us 40min as Saturday is the busiest day in London. But eventually, we got there.  I've never been to the Saatchi Gallery before, but I followed where the people clutching tubes of posters that read LITTLE BLACK JACKET were leaving from.

The room was cramped with people glazing at the rows of star studded black and white photos. I strolled around the entire room whilst my mum, thankfully, stood in line for a free poster of a photograph of Georgia May Jagger.  The elite A-list celebs wore the jacket in their very own style.  An excellent way to show its versatility!  Some wore it quirky, some wore it casually, some wore it gracefully.  It really made my mum and I want to have our own a little Chanel black jacket; but we took it back when we realised what the price of one was.

One of my favourite of the photographs would be seeing (well the back of) Anna Wintour. My mum and I both agreed that she, out of all the celebs, can only do this because anyone would know who she is by just looking at the back of her head.

Ahhh, looking at these well known and successful stars inspired me to one day be among them, posing in a little black jacket for all to drool over  see.

LDR for H&M

When I was looking through my recent Elle magazine I froze when I finally saw a printed version of Lana Del Rey for H&M. Then I froze again yesterday when I saw her commercial for H&M. She sings 'Blue Velvet' in her signature style, like melting icing.

I don't know when H&M are realising this collection, but the day it does, I'll be there. Fo sure.

Also, yesterday I heard the full version of 'Damn You'. I remember when I was on Tumblr, I heard a 30 second snippet of the song. At the end of the clip I was nearly in tears because I wanted more. The song matched exactly what happened to me that night. Lying down in my room at 3am replaying and replaying the 30 second long clip.
It's such a simple song. Repeated verses and choruses. Sounds like a song that was made in a day on a cheap digital music software. But it's the simplicity that entices me.

HBD MKA!

Happy 26th Birthday Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen!

How do they manage to always dress effortlessly glamorous and edgy? I do not know. They just know fashion inside and out.  I've loved them for nearly all my life. I wish them a happy birthday and  wish for many many years off awing and lusting over their style.

I even have a separate folder of all the images I love of them saved over the years; editorials, street style and red carpets, you name it. There's probably more of these images below, but had to limit it to 30. And I didn't want to do an Olsen spam.. so instead I made a collage.

Lots of love xx

LONG LIVE THE TWINS OF FASHION

These are probably my favourite pics of them, what's yours??

Bill Cunningham New York

There is no-one in the world who is more modest than Bill Cunningham, expect the Dalai Lama probably.  He is a photographer, the pioneer of street style fashion .  He casually rides his bike snapping pictures of, anyone really, who looks like they have made a piece of art by using clothes. He captures detailed photos whilst dodging cars and taxis in New York, at the age of 83! Yes, 83.

It's one of the best fashion documentary I've seen, move out of the way The September Issue!  I loved it because his quotations were the most inspiration sayings I've heard. He says it's not about taking pictures of celebrities who just effortlessly put together a boring outfit, but it's about the unknown fashion lovers who can create incredible show stopping outfits.

Wise words Bill, wise words.

Seriously, the film is so humorous! I was crying with laughter at many times.  I loved the fact that it was not about the young and reckless, but more focused on the mature hidden legends, ranging from ages 70 and above!  It was warming to know that they are so involved in fashion and they always live life to the fullest.  Even one lady mentioned that she was 'the oldest teenager' because she didn't care about consequences and did whatever she wanted to.  However, it was sad to see that some of the old time residents, including Bill, were being pushed out of their icon fashion apartments by the New York state governors.  Nevertheless, it had a sweet tale from the beginning to the end.

I could write even more about my love for this film, but I gotta get back to revision, essays and school work. Such is life.

My French Style IcĂ´ne

Je t'aime, Francoise Hardy

Today I had to do a presentation in French about French speaking singers.
I love listening to french music even though most of time I'm only understanding half of what they're saying.

This is her most favourite song, Tous Les Garcons.
It's about the girls and boys her age all walk around happy and cheerful, but she doesn't. Because nobody who wants or to love her.
At first you would think it's a really pleasant song, especially if you don't understand French, but deep down the beautiful light hearted singer has a deeper meaning.

She dresses so effortlessly and casual chic. I'm in absolute love with her hair; the feathered fringe, her make-up; dark black top liner cat eyed and her smile; so pretty and sincere.

I would admit that our styles are quite similar, I can't leave my house without my eye-liner and I too have the same style of hair...

Except for the clothes, she has a much more Parisian chic than me.

Slightly reminds me of Alexa Chung
